Survival Log Endings: Every Story Ending and Challenge Route Explained
How many endings does Survival Log have? Steam's own achievements answer it: the trophy All Roads Lead to the End asks you to "achieve all 9 endings", and a second trophy, The Other Road, asks you to "collect all 3 challenge endings". So there are 9 story endings plus a separate challenge-ending track, and the September 29 Autumn Update added new branching challenge routes on top of that. This page breaks down both tracks, what each ending's trophy actually confirms, and the step-by-step flow to reach one on purpose.
Honesty note: Midnight Workshop does not publish ending triggers in its Steam announcements, and Steam hides the descriptions of the ending trophies (a hidden achievement shows no condition until it unlocks). Everything below is either officially published or taken from the live Steam achievement list — anything the developer has not confirmed is marked TBD instead of guessed.
How endings work in Survival Log (the verified flow)
Every run funnels toward the Day 87 final horde. Survive it and the game resolves into an ending based on how you played — your stockpile, survivor relationships, quest progress and choices all feed into it. Four confirmed mechanics shape that moment:
1. The ending commitment. Late in a run you commit to a path. The achievement My Choice spells it out: "make an ending commitment and stake the remaining days on one path." Since the Autumn Update, events that are crucial to a specific route are marked, and the missions tab groups missions by route so you can see your current progress and next objective.
2. Two separate tracks — story and challenge. The nine story endings are the commitment-path endings. Challenge endings are tracked apart from them: the September 8 update added a "Challenge Ending Achieved This Run" section to the ending survival record so challenge endings like Shield of the Street are not confused with the nine commitment endings.
3. The Safehouse Snapshot. Added in the September 8 update, reaching an ending now shows a freeze-frame review: an extra page uses your Home at the moment of ending as the background, saves one photo per floor, and tallies how many people your safe house can sustain and how strong a zombie horde it can withstand. That tally feeds into your survival-record score. The September 12 update fixed the freeze-frame composition for the Warehouse Manager's Home second floor, which had been rendering offset.
4. You can review and even refuse endings. The October 2 update added an ending review screen: on the Story Mode character select screen, a character's achieved endings appear next to their photo — click one to revisit the ending screen, the rating, and the Safehouse left behind from that run. You do not have to stop, either: the achievement Refusing to Take a Bow is awarded for choosing to continue holding your ground after reaching an ending, and Endless Mode continues past the story entirely.
After an ending your run becomes a rebirth: you keep Planning Points and some progress so the next loop is stronger (New Game+ arrived 8/14). The August 22 update added a fourth respawn option — "Tear Up This Round and Rewrite" — which restarts the current cycle from day one and refunds all Planning Points spent this round without consuming a respawn chance.
The 9 story endings at a glance
Each story ending has its own Steam trophy, which is the only hard public evidence of the ending list. Where the official notes publish a trigger we quote it; where they do not, it is TBD.
| Story ending | Steam trophy | What is officially confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| Rescue | Evacuate | Official trigger not published — TBD. It is the most commonly unlocked ending trophy (18.1% of players), which is why this site recommends it as a clean first clear. |
| Girl Next Door | Side By Side | Official trigger not published — TBD. Related: One Person's Hundred Days ("reached the ending without ever advancing the Neighbor storyline this round") confirms the Neighbor storyline is an ending-relevant path. |
| Stranger | Net | Official text references a stranger path — Web Weaver: "after choosing the stranger path, deliver supplies to survivor outposts 12 times." Exact ending trigger TBD. |
| Safe House | — | Official trigger not published — TBD. Note: Steam's live global-stats list (October 11, 2026) no longer shows a dedicated safe-house ending trophy (the older "Fortress" entry has been dropped or renamed). |
| Truth | The Truth | Related collectible: Puzzle ("collect all truth clues") and Archives Complete ("read all four archives into the recorder"). Exact link to this ending TBD. |
| Doomsday Greenhouse | Greenhouse | Official trigger not published — TBD. The greenhouse systems are real and expanding: the Student's terrace becomes a glass greenhouse after renovation (9/30 update), and the Autumn Update adds an "Apocalypse Greenhouse" challenge route. |
| Companionship | Companionship | Official trigger not published — TBD. The rescue/companion systems (rope-and-basket rescues, survivor letters) feed this path. |
| Iron Barrel Hub | Supply Station | Official text references a supply station route — Name on the Delivery Slip: "collect all three receipt clues and choose the supply station route." Exact ending trigger TBD. |
| Giving Up | Stay in Place | Official trigger not published — TBD. |
Character note: the per-character trophies (Wage Slave's Story, Student's Story, Warehouse Manager's Story) each ask you to reach any ending with that protagonist — you do not need all nine endings on every character. Reaching all nine unlocks All Roads Lead to the End.
The 3 challenge endings and the Autumn Update's new routes
Challenge endings are the second track. The Other Road confirms there are three of them, and two lines are properly documented:
Shield of the Street — the joint-defense line (added 9/4, V1.0.15690). This is the series challenge that launched the track. In the mid-to-late post-disaster period, survivors at some trading posts can be besieged by zombie hordes and send out distress messages. When they do, you deploy Drones to lure the zombie swarms to your Home's doorstep, help fend off the wave, and the trading-post survivors send support supplies in return. Survive multiple waves of increasingly large zombie hordes and you earn the challenge ending "Shield of the Street" — all three protagonists can trigger it after Day 50. Its trophy text is "Complete Challenge I of the joint-defense line", which implies more than one challenge in that line; Steam also lists a separate Shield of the District trophy, but the official notes do not publish how the two relate — treat the mapping as TBD.
The Autumn Update's branching challenge routes (added 9/29, V1.1.18153). The Autumn Update adds new challenge routes and endings for each character. These require a new save file: existing saves keep the original routes and endings, and saves created after the update are marked with a maple leaf in the save list so you can tell them apart. The official announcements name the routes and their rewards:
| Challenge route | Character | Official route and reward |
|---|---|---|
| Defend the House | Universal | Defend your house over multiple zombie waves; completing the "Neighborhood Shield" challenge makes you "Guardian of the City". |
| First Rescue | Universal | Repair your communication device, activate the Distress Beacon, prepare supplies and wait for a "Timely Arrival". |
| Stronghold Lights | Wage Slave | Team up with other survivors over the radio, accept procurement missions, build up a base and light up the "Stronghold Lights". |
| Apocalypse Lighthouse | Wage Slave | Interact with and help other survivors, build trust, and become a "Lighthouse" in the apocalypse. |
| Apocalypse Greenhouse | Student | Turn your balcony into a greenhouse, decorate it with your favourite colours and create an "Apocalypse Oasis". |
| Overwinter | Student | Take procurement missions from the research institute and grow cold-resistant plants to provide a "Seed of Hope". |
| Supply Hub | Warehouse Manager | Take procurement missions from the rescue platform, distribute supplies and team up with other strongholds. |
Which three count toward the trophy? The developer does not say which three of these routes are the "3 challenge endings" tracked by The Other Road — TBD. The trophies that clearly belong to this layer are Shield of the Street (4.7%), Guardian of the City (2.8%), Camp Opens (2.6%, "get the rescue camp built and running") and, at well under 1%, Shield of the District, Camp Lights and Relics — all still rare, which fits a challenge-ending tier. Unlocking these routes also runs through the new procurement missions: each character unlocks them through their main story, delivering specific goods for valuable rewards, and after enough procurement missions the Warehouse Manager automatically receives a multi-stage procurement mission.
How to reach a specific ending (step-by-step flow)
Step 1 — pick the track. A story ending comes from committing to one of the nine commitment paths; a challenge ending comes from clearing a route's challenge objective. Challenge endings are detected separately on the survival record, so you can chase both in the same run's lifetime.
Step 2 — start the right save. For the Autumn challenge routes you must begin a new save file (look for the maple leaf marker). The nine story endings and the 9/4 Shield of the Street line remain available on older saves.
Step 3 — unlock the character's route systems. Procurement missions come from the main story, so advance your protagonist's storyline; the missions tab then groups objectives by route so you can see progress and the next step. Route-critical events are marked on the map and in the log.
Step 4 — build the route's prerequisites. Examples drawn from official text: Shield of the Street needs you past Day 50 with working Drones to lure hordes away from besieged trading posts; Defend the House needs a home that can survive multiple horde waves (a repairable defense line — defenses now deplete Durability and are repaired manually or by the FX-series repair bot); Apocalypse Greenhouse needs the Student's terrace renovated into a glass greenhouse; First Rescue needs the communication device repaired, the Distress Beacon activated and supplies prepared; Overwinter and Supply Hub run on research-institute and rescue-platform procurement missions.
Step 5 — make the commitment. Take the ending commitment (My Choice) and stake the remaining days on that one path. Do not spread across several routes — the tracking is per run.
Step 6 — survive the Day 87 final horde. The final horde is confirmed for Day 87; the run resolves into the ending afterward, then presents the Safehouse Snapshot and the survival record (including the challenge-ending section).
Step 7 — check it landed. Go back to the Story Mode character select screen: the ending now appears next to your character's photo, and clicking it replays the ending screen, its rating and the Safehouse from that run. Repeat on a new save or a rebirth for the next one.
Ending-related achievements checklist
These are the trophies that actually gate the endings. The nine story endings are covered by their individual trophies; these are the meta-trophies worth planning around.
| Achievement | Condition |
|---|---|
| My Choice | Make an ending commitment and stake the remaining days on one path |
| All Roads Lead to the End | Achieve all 9 endings |
| The Other Road | Collect all 3 challenge endings |
| Refusing to Take a Bow | Choose to continue holding your ground after reaching an ending |
| Shield of the Street | Complete Challenge I of the joint-defense line |
| Just Once | Reach the ending without using a single rebirth in this save file |
| Never Fallen | Reach the ending without your life ever dropping below 20% this round |
| Flawless | Reach the ending while keeping doors and windows above 70% throughout the round |
| Minimal Budget | Reach the ending while spending less than half of your money before the disaster |
| One Person's Hundred Days | Reach the ending without ever advancing the Neighbor storyline this round |
| Stay behind closed doors | Reach the ending without ever leaving home this round |
| Vegetarianism | Reach the ending without eating any meat this round |
| Going Solo | Reach the ending without making any trades this round |
| Wage Slave's Story / Student's Story / Warehouse Manager's Story | Reach any ending with that protagonist |
The four "constraint" trophies (Stay behind closed doors, Vegetarianism, Going Solo, One Person's Hundred Days) are the cheapest way to double-dip: they are awarded for reaching an ending while restricting one system, so pair them with a story ending you were going for anyway.
FAQ (quick answers)
How many endings does Survival Log have?
Nine story endings (the requirement of All Roads Lead to the End) plus a separate challenge-ending track with three tracked by The Other Road, expanded by the Autumn Update's new branching routes.
Do the new endings need a new save?
Yes — the Autumn Update states that new challenge routes and endings require a new save file; existing saves keep the original routes and endings. Post-update saves carry a maple leaf marker in the save list.
Can I see the endings I already reached?
Yes. The October 2 update added the ending review screen on the Story Mode character select screen — each achieved ending sits next to the character's photo and can be clicked to replay the ending screen, rating and safehouse.
Does reaching an ending always end the run?
No. You can keep holding your ground after an ending (Refusing to Take a Bow), and Endless Mode continues indefinitely past the story.
Which ending should I aim for first?
The Rescue path and its Evacuate trophy is the ending most players reach (18.1% of all players have it), so it is the safest first clear. The rarest story trophies — Companionship, Greenhouse and the hidden ones — are long-tail goals.
Where do these ending facts come from?
Official Steam announcements from Midnight Workshop (including the 9/4 Shield of the Street notes, the 9/8 and 9/12 ending-presentation patches, the 10/2 ending review screen and the 9/29 Autumn Update) plus Steam's live global achievement list, re-checked on October 11, 2026. Unpublished triggers are marked TBD.
