Survival Log Walkthrough: The Full Game Flow From Countdown to Every Ending

Survival Log rebirth mechanic art representing the full-game loop

This Survival Log walkthrough takes you through the complete game flow: the 10-hour pre-disaster countdown, the first weeks after the outbreak, the rescue storylines and trading that open mid-game, the horde defense cycles, the Day 87 final horde, all 9 endings, and what happens when you keep going in Endless mode. If you want a tighter beginner-focused version, read the Beginners Guide instead; this page is the full roadmap.

Phase 1: The 10-Hour Pre-Disaster Countdown (Day 0)

Every run begins with a 10-hour countdown before the zombie apocalypse hits. This is your only prep window, and everything you do here shapes the whole run. Your three priorities, in order:

1) Food variety. Buy 20+ different food types from supermarkets, hardware stores and farmers' markets. Variety keeps survivor Morale up and unlocks the Well-Stocked Pantry achievement. Buy around the city's 5 supply points — visit all of them to unlock Explore the Entire City.

2) Materials for reinforcement and crafting. You need 4+ material types for doors, windows, furniture and defense. Reinforce your Home's doors and windows by day 2-3 of the countdown — Iron Wall requires maxing every entry point, and this work directly reduces horde damage.

3) Tools and furniture. Crowbars, bags, storage furniture and the Tool Cabinet expand what you can carry and store. Watch your weight milestones: 5 kg (Prepper), 25 kg (Fine Haul) and 50 kg (Doomsday Tycoon).

Use the Loot Spotter inventory system from the start to track what you have and avoid buying duplicates while shopping.

Phase 2: Outbreak and the First Week

When the countdown ends, Survival Log becomes a safehouse management sim. The core rule: keep Satiety, Morale, Stamina and Life above 80 at all times (Steady and Stable).

Cook your first meal immediately (Fire It Up), then aim for 10 perfect dishes (A Good Meal) and, if you can, a meal at 3 AM (Midnight Kitchen). Cooking matters more than it looks — meals are your main Morale and stat tool.

Get power running before the first horde. You have three verified options — diesel generator, manual generator and solar panels — each with different fuel and setup costs (Powered unlocks on first electricity). Solar panels, energy storage and heating equipment recipes are also tied to the Warehouse Manager storyline added in the 8/21 update.

Start your defense setup early: the Triple Defense achievement wants 4 spikes, 4 electric nets and 4 chainsaws active at once. Prioritize door and window reinforcement, then traps.

Phase 3: Days 6-7 — Storylines, Trading and Exploration

Around day 6, the game opens up:

Rescue storylines. The Crowbar rescue storyline and the Warehouse Manager questline unlock unique items and recipes. The 8/21 update completed the Warehouse Manager story with two new events that unlock solar panel, energy storage and heating equipment recipes.

Repairs. The workbench repair path opens from day 6 — fix damaged equipment instead of replacing it to save materials.

Trading. Eight trading points accept surplus goods (30 trades = Supplier). Drones add aerial scavenging (50 drone runs = Aerial Scavenging); since 8/19 you can trade directly from Home storage via the Refrigerator and Tool Cabinet tabs, and since 8/21 drone delivery no longer requires an active trading relationship first. Since the 9/12 update the College Student can run a second Drone: a mid-game side quest sends you back to the Abandoned School to recover an old teaching Drone, which can be repaired at Home and used alongside your first — saves that already visited the School can still find it when re-entering.

Exploration. Abandoned school and hospital maps hold loot — the 8/20 update fixed impassable fire cabinets and electrical boxes there, so full loot routes are clean now.

Phase 4: Horde Cycles and Defense

The first horde's exact day is not officially confirmed — the only confirmed milestone is the final horde on Day 87. Prepare progressively instead of over-preparing early.

Radio warnings and the Horde Tension state (August 20-21)

Since the 8/20 update, the Radio broadcasts a warning a few days before a horde arrives; accept the mission and survive until the next warning for extra rewards. During the attack itself, the 8/21 update adds a Horde Tension state: if doors and windows are close to being breached, your survivors stop automatically eating, sleeping and entertaining themselves until repairs are done or the horde retreats (manual commands still work).

Keep all four stats above 80 during hordes and repair any damaged door or window immediately — Zero Breach demands surviving the final horde with no door or window damage. Since the 8/15 patch, overrun points appear on the map after hordes so you can see where zombies broke through.

Phase 5: Late Game — The Day 87 Final Horde and All 9 Endings

The endgame is the Day 87 final horde, after which the game resolves into one of 9 endings based on how you played: your stockpile, relationships, quest progress and decisions all feed into which ending you get. Explore different survivor routes to see different endings — each run's choices matter. Each ending maps to one of the 9 ending achievements, and reaching every one unlocks All Roads Lead to the End.

Ending presentation (9/8–9/12 updates). The September 8 update added the “Safehouse Snapshot” freeze-frame review: when you reach an ending, an extra page uses your Home at that moment as the background, saves one photo per floor, and tallies how many people the safe house can sustain and how strong a zombie horde it can withstand — the tally feeds the survival-record score. The same update added a Challenge Ending Achieved This Run section to the survival record. The September 12 update then fixed the freeze-frame composition for the Warehouse Manager’s Home second floor, which had been rendering offset.

All 9 Endings at a Glance

Every ending is reached through a late-game ending commitment (the My Choice achievement: "make an ending commitment and stake the remaining days on one path"), then resolved by the Day 87 final horde. The nine main endings, with their Steam achievement and anything official text confirms about each. Where the official notes do not publish a trigger, we mark it TBD rather than guess:

Character note: the per-character achievements (Wage Slave's Story, Student's Story, Warehouse Manager's Story) each ask you to reach any ending with that protagonist — you do not need every ending on every character.

Beyond the nine main endings, the 9/4 update (V1.0.15690) adds a separate defensive-support challenge ending, "Shield of the Street". From the mid-to-late post-disaster period onward, survivors at some trading posts can be besieged by zombie hordes and send distress messages; when they do, deploy Drones to lure the zombie swarms to your Home’s doorstep and help fend off the waves in exchange for support supplies. Survive multiple waves of increasingly large hordes to earn the challenge ending — all three protagonists can trigger it after Day 50. The official notes call it a "challenge ending," distinct from the nine commitment-path endings (whether it counts toward the "All Roads Lead to the End" achievement is not yet officially confirmed).

Ending flow got two additions in the 9/8 update (V1.0.15876). First, reaching an ending now shows a "Safehouse Snapshot" freeze-frame review: a page using your Home at the moment of ending as the background, one photo per floor, plus a tally of how many people the safe house can sustain and how strong a zombie horde it can withstand — the tally feeds into your survival-record scoring. Second, the ending survival record gains a "Challenge Ending Achieved This Run" section (so challenge endings like Shield of the Street are tracked separately from the nine commitment endings), and its layout is optimized for smaller windows.

After an ending, your run becomes a rebirth: you keep Planning Points and some progress to make the next loop stronger. New Game+ (added 8/14) lets you carry things further, and the 8/18 update fixed several rebirth and Planning Point calculation bugs that previously mis-tracked progress after loading an ending save. The 9/4 update makes New Game+ smoother: the Front Door’s Advanced Repair and Advanced Reinforcement can now be used directly without first completing their prerequisite tasks. The 8/22 update adds a fourth respawn option — "Tear Up This Round and Rewrite" — which restarts the current cycle from day one and refunds all Planning Points spent this round without consuming a respawn chance.

Phase 6: Endless Mode

Beyond the story, Endless Mode removes the ending and keeps escalating: survive 30 days (Hold Out for Thirty Days), push to Threat Level 8, and grind Limit Break. The 8/19 update added the Grinder to Endless initial recipes (existing saves get it automatically on load), made the mode indicator clearer, and improved Endless opening narrative. Since the 9/8 update, defensive support challenges no longer appear in Endless Mode — they are a story-mode feature only — and repelling the final wave of a zombie horde now resolves the crisis immediately instead of waiting until the scheduled time. The 9/17 update then fixed the long-run dead-end: after surviving 200 days, the daily settlement stopped offering the choose-one-of-three planning options and the world stayed paused after confirming it — both now work, so Endless runs are no longer capped at day 200. A drone status bug is fixed alongside it: sending one Drone out to lure a zombie horde no longer marks another Drone at Home as unusable, and the Warehouse Manager’s rescue panel can no longer be opened while a Drone is away (which used to dispatch the wrong Drone).
